This paper presents the three-dimensional numerical analysis of consolidation of the vertically reinforced subsoil. Subsoil improved by vibro replacement (stone columns) makes the subsoil an anisotropic medium. Therefore, two analyzes using two different approaches are used, namely: the Terzaghi theory and more sophisticated – the linear Biot poroelasticity theory. Numerical calculations precedes the mathematical description of consolidation process. Numerical calculations using FlexPDE based on finite element method are performed. Results obtainedby the two approaches are compared and finally the conclusions are drawn.
