The aim of this study was to determine link between commonly used stress markers and guaiacol peroxidase activity. In this study we propose assesment of plant oxidative stress by determining enzymatic activity of guaiacol peroxidase (GPX) in plants which relates to their growth potential. Performed tests on yellow lupin (Lupinus luteus) demonstrated that standard toxicity assay, like germination index and root length measurement, may be not enough to fully diagnose the state of a plant. Proposed analysis concentrated on comparison of guaiacol peroxidase activity in lupin grown on soil containing heavy metals with addition of various fertilizers that had major impact on plant development. Our experiment explores correlation of plant growth and GPX activity and possible explanations for lack of correlation with seed germination rates.
